Seminole Greenways

Branding, Wayfinding, Case Study | Spring 2025

Seminole County has an expansive trail system totaling around 130 miles with new additions every few years. The goal is for these trails to eventually be completely connected across the county, encouraging recreation and providing residents with an alternative to vehicular travel. However, the trail system doesn’t currently have a cohesive identity. There’s no overarching brand and the signage is dated and inconsistent from trail to trail. The trails also aren’t very well known by residents. Most people in areas close to trails (but not directly on them) aren’t aware of their existence, and of the people who are aware of them, only a third actually use them. (Reed, 2004) There’s also no public promotion of the trails, making it difficult for people to learn about them without seeking them out. With all this in mind, the subject of my capstone thesis project at Tyler School of Art and Architecture is a rebrand of the identity, signage, collateral, and advertising of the Seminole County trail system. A refreshed visual identity can increase awareness, improve public perception, and make the trail system more welcoming and navigable for both new and repeat visitors.
